2009 Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge

2009 Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge | July 17-19 | Portland, Oregon

The Eleventh Annual Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge is set to play host to some of the best track racing in North America. The AVC will take place July 17-19 at the Alpenrose Velodrome in Portland, Oregon. Elite Men, Women and Masters 40+ will compete in a three-day omnium which includes time trial, sprints and distance events. The event features a family friendly atmosphere and a $13,000 prize list. Several elite riders are already confirmed for the event include past US Olympians Adam Duvendeck and Jame Carney, Canadian World’s team member Travis Smith, and local favorites Steven Beardsley and Dean Tracy.

2009 FSA Grand Prix - PreRegistration Open

For the 4th year, ByrneInvent Cycling Team and the Marymoor Velodrome Association, present the 2009 FSA Grand Prix, Northwest Velodrome Championships on Friday-Saturday. July 24-25, 2009, at the Marymoor Velodrome in Redmond Washington.

Once again featuring a $15,000+ cash purse plus prizes, along with our legendary enthusiastic crowds and wonderful late July northwest weather, the FSA Grand Prix is going to be another great race on the calender. Both Elite Men and Elite Women will compete in Kilo, Pursuit, Team Sprint, Team Pursuit, Keirin, Match Sprint, Miss and Out, Scratch, Points and the Madison. Masters Men will race as well.

The American Velodrome Challenge - San Jose

International Stars And Top US Cyclists To Compete At American Velodrome Challenge In San Jose, CA

The American Velodrome Challenge (AVC) will be held at the Hellyer Velodrome in San Jose, CA on June 26 and 27. The event will feature sprint and endurance racing including Montano Velo Keirin, Concept Cyclery Women''s Points Race and Peckham Memorial Points Race as well as SportVelo Miss-n-Out, Scratch, Madison and Sprint events. Racers will compete for nearly $15,000 in cash prizes.

In the endurance women''s events, Shelley Olds (Proman) will be back to defend her Concept Cyclery Points Race and Testarossa Scratch Race titles. "Pocket Rocket" Shelley Olds says, "The AVC is one of the highlights of my season every year. It combines highly contested racing with a great atmosphere for spectating. It''s fantastic to have a race of this caliber at my local track." With $1,000 going to the winner of the Concept Cyclery Women''s Points Race, the race is guaranteed to be rocket fast. The women''s sprint events will see Jen Featheringill (Bike Central) defend her Keirin and Sprint titles against USA elite national champion Cari Higgins (Proman) and Cristin Walker, the USA U23 National Sprint Champion.

Product Review: Lazer O2 RD Race Helmet

Due to cir****stances beyond our control, we had to outsource this product review! Special thanks to Trish @ Southeastern Cycling for giving us the review!

The O2 Race is the latest helmet from Lazer. It has the Rollsys fit system, which places the fit adjustment on top of the helmet as opposed to the back as with most cycling helmets. It has InMold construction and 24 vents. It comes in one size-Unisex.

The styling of the O2 Race is very nice. It looks good on, which is almost as important as how it protects your head in a crash. With several colors to choose from, most riders can find one that matches their team kit.

I rode with the helmet in several kinds of weather. On a warm day, the vents allowed adequate air flow through the helmet to keep my head cool. On a cooler day, the airflow was enough to keep my head from sweating but not enough to make it cold. The straps were easy to adjust.

UNIVERSAL SPORTS ANNOUNCES MULTI-YEAR DEAL TO BROADCAST GIRO D�ITALIA

LOS ANGELES � May 8, 2009 � Universal Sports announced a multi-year deal today to broadcast the Giro d�Italia as the race celebrates its 100th anniversary, starting tomorrow. Lance Armstrong will make his debut in this race as he returns from his retirement. Coverage of the race begins with a team time trial on Saturday, May 9, from Lido di Venezia on the Universal Sports Network and live online, all broadcast times available at UniversalSports.com.

Universal Sports continues to solidify its commitment to broadcast top cycling events with the multi-year broadcast agreement. As part of the deal, Universal Sports will provide television and online coverage, including archived video and television re-airs, for the 2009�2012 Giro d''Italia races. Previous to this agreement, the race was available on a limited basis on the Versus network, and through pay-per-view on Cycling.TV. In addition to the Giro, Universal Sports has had a long-term agreement with the UCI to broadcast world cups and world championships in Road, Track, Cyclo-cross, Mountain and BMX, as well as the Tour of Basque Country, Tour of Missouri, Tour of Georgia and the Deutschland Tour.

FGF Interview - Jimmy Watkins

Jimmy Watkins ignited the US track scene on fire last year by winning National titles in the Sprint, Keirin and Team Sprint. The new big man on the US track cycling scene seems to kick in doors and save old ladies by day and race on the boards and hit the gym at night (or maybe it is the other way around).

In 2009, Jimmy has been off to a quick start by setting 2 new PR’s in the 200 and Kilo in early March as well as winning the Southern Games International Sprint tournament in late March. His coach, Andy Sparks of Empower Coaching Systems, has noted that Jimmy can produce over 2200 watts, which puts him in the ball park to play with the World’s best in sprinting. Fixed Gear Fever had a chance to chat with the US National Champion.
