Bont goes both ways.

They are the nicest shoe Ive ever owned. I love the fit and function of them. Stiff, really light, and cool looking at that. A touch expensive but once you slide into a custom shoe there is no going back.

The issue tho is the service by the north american reps. In particular the Canadian one. Fucking useless! I have a pair that cracked, Bont said I had to deal with the rep, who has yet to return a single email to me.

Bont are you reading this? I'll go buy Shimano......

I bought a pair in April or May and the heels have cracked. I have no idea when I'll get them back or at what cost.

EDIT: They *are* really great shoes. But, I've heard that they have problems with the heels breaking/cracking. A buddy at my track had the same problem. But, he's a die-hard fan. He's been a fan since his competitive rollerblading days.

From walking around in them?

I also had been riding a pair of A3's since the beginning of May. I had one of the cleat hole metal pieces (that the bolt threads into) come loose, making it impossible to tighten or remove my speedplay cleats. The dealer extended me a very generous deal on a pair of replacement shoes while the A3's were being sent back to Sportsmultiplied for repair.

I had some other miscellaneous "finish details" type issues with the shoes as well (heel pads wearing very fast and falling off, vent cover plastic pieces falling off), which was disappointing because I definitely consider them the most efficient and best fitting cycling shoe I've ever worn.

I'm going on 4 years on a pair of specialized carbon sole shoes. Couple minor issues, but fixed with an email to specialized. They cost $129 on sale.

Custom may be great, but this heal crack thing seems to be nearly epidemic.

I just got my Exustar in. The finish is very nice, they fit glove tight but I have a med foot, any wider and they may not work, skinny feet should be GTG. Carbon soles lace ups, we shall see

The Bont were just to much, Duegi were to small, did not try Carnac or Adidas

I do feel a little pimpish in them

Yup.

Howard at our track is the guy who is very familiar with the brand. He says that it's not an uncommon problem. He actually took mine to the shop for me being that he was headed there the next week himself for the same problem. The fact that I'm way heavier than the average rider and walking the unusual angles on and off the track probably didn't help. I'm still pissed, though. They are a great product with that one fatal flaw.

I'd like to keep using them as special occasion shoes, but the stack height is so low that it warrants a change in saddle height if you use them.

I've had mine 2+ years and the heels are still hard as a rock. The cheap-o pads went missing ages ago, but that doesn't matter. The trim is looking a bit ragged, and the blind nuts for cleats spun (fixed with crazy glue) last time I replaced my cleats, but otherwise they are going strong. Mine look a little different than others, so maybe I have an early version that had a tougher sole.

I want some lace-up ones now.

i had a pair,i ended up giving them away i was that pissed off with them, the most uncomfortable shoes i have ever had,i had to warm up with my road shoes ,i couldn't wear them any longer than 5 minutes, i think it was just a case that im not suited to that style of shoe.

Lace ups make everything take twice as long when you have to take a piss.........

I may just have a carbon guy slap a layer on the heel for me, problem solved.

All I'll say is how many times do you have to spend $150-300 on the wrong shoes before a $675 pair of D2's starts to look like a good deal?

The only stock shoe that came close to cutting it for me was the Specialized Road carbon. Even then I'd need two pair since my left foot is 4-5mm longer. Add in the BodyGlove orthotic and I was at D2 level price-wise.

So just to make this simple....

Pros: An unquantifiable ability to make you go fast and feel cool, and a debatable high-quality fit.

Cons: Cracking heels, poor finish work, debatable fit quality, sizing inconsistencies, broken cleat mounts, expensive, poor availability, poor customer service, looking like a fool asking your teammates to help you find the toe bumper that fell off your shoe 20 minutes ago.... etc.

I swear there should be and easier way to go about this Confused
