I think you got it, don't mess with gears for 0.2 difference

Is road bike not easier on turbo for gears etc?

Wrong bars, wrong cranks, wrong pedals. And big jumps between gears.

Using the track bike I'm only changing gears (up ~1") about once every 2 weeks, so that's less hassle than swapping road-bike pedals all the time. Plus track bike is always clean.

Seriously man, .2 can easily be accounted for by so many small factors-- line choice, jump timing, just good/poor execution, 6 vs. 7 beers the night before, etc.

How do you warm up if you're using the track bike?,plus you should be using a mixture of big and smaller gears training, what gear do you use for starts, jumps in?,personally i think it is better to use the road bike, and also have a look at that up,up,up website, they have some excellent training drills on there.

I warm-up slowly Wink

Since it's now winter, I'm only doing a small subset of a things on the trainer. Basically just max-speed 5-8 seconds to 155 rpm. When I am consistently over 155, I up the gear.

Starts are so unrealistic on my setup, they are not worth doing. Anyway, I'm saving those for outdoors in the spring.

The rest of training is weights now. The on-bike is just to keep things sharp, while in a more intense weight-phase.

The Up, up up stuff is very nice, but much larger volume than I am looking for now.

It's more the number of efforts. I use about 45 minutes, but only do 4 efforts.

Some folks say I'm doing much too little volume, but if I do more, it all just goes slower.

I think you might be too, there are really only 3 efforts that hurt and on the the 3rd 1,sometimes i feel like throwing up.the rest are essentially warm up and wind downs.
you have to suffer sometimes
