Just a question boy's
As I attained the ripe 'ol age of 50 ( 5+ years ago) my knees have been somewhat suspect to aches and discomforts.
I discovered that a good quality omega 3 oil reduced it dramatically.
Since Xmas I have been experiencing some major stiffness which I couldn't figure out as I was still taking my omega 3 and also MSM. While reading some things on-line pertaining to "my issue" I increased my calcium intake.
All I did was drink an 8oz glass of milk each night before bed. Within 48hr things improved greatly and now 7 days later my knees feel real good.
Q) Can anyone explain the theory. Or, perhaps because 90% of my workouts involve load bearing work ( weights, riding, skating) my bones were craving more calcium.?
Any explainations are appriciated.............Thanks G _________________ "Workouts are when you feel amazing afterwards, training is when it hurts ! "

I can remember my Irish grandmother telling me something
very similar many, many years ago, but I don't think it was
the calcium in her milk that relieved her aches and pains, I
believe it was the Bushmill's. _________________ The movement of the body is more economical,

| I've been looking into B12 shots for the same thing. Check out "bursitis b12" for some info. Haven't done it yet. A bit alarming since I'm a wee tot of only 41. |

| No expert: there probably isn't a direct link to your milk/calcium consumption. Maybe indirectly the calcium aided in countering an acidic environment in your body. That was partially responsible for increased inflammation in your joints. These priniples are not substantiated in really good research, however, when subjects with ailments like severe arthritis, cancers, and other diseases were tested the level of acidity in their bodies was significantly higher the their equal, healthy counterparts. One concept in fighting high acidity levels was calcium consumption. If you recall the Coral Calcium push some years ago. That's all I got? |

| I'd be vary curious to see data about the "acidity in the body". Our bodies are very sensitive to such things and usually keep pH levels in very tight reign. |

I read this stuff 5 maybe 10 years ago during my kinesiology studying. I'm not saying I buy into it as Ph is VERY regulated. My MD wife would say hogwash. I was trying to draw a reasonable explanation from some literature I know I read somewhere. Because if it's working.....hey keep doing it. Why deter it.
My opinion on the other hand would be that it was mere coincidence and there was some other contributing factor not accounted for. Calcium fortified Orange juice provides more calcium per serving than Milk. That was taught in a nutrition class . Although I never checked that out.
However, the "potential" possibilities are infinite. Maybe the milk in Canada is high in CLA. Which could provide some benefit towards joint inflammation. USA milk is very low in CLA. Swedish milk has a decent amount. Canada ????. So really we could keep throwing stuff out. If you find it's working. SHIT!!!! Send me a couple gallons. |

I believe this is the famous GOMA (Glass of milk a day) espoused by Mark Rippetoe. |

| 41...... But I played another sport at nearly the highest level that bent oneI love YOU!!!! of my knees in a direction the good lord hadn't designed it to move in. Hence a large part of my studies were directed towards inflammation control via nutrition and micronutrient supplementation. |
