NJS stands for National Japanese Standard. NJS was designed for the professional keirin racers in Japan, wanting to make sure they have very sturdy parts that can withsatnd the repeated beating of keirin racing and to keep the bikes somewhat standard and the riders making the difference.

while we're regurgitating second hand information, I read that Campagnolo failed the first time they tried to get their equipment certified by the NJS.
I have some Nitto NJS bars and stem... it's really nice stuff.

| campy didn't fail the first time, if i'm not mistaken. there was about five or so years they were NJS certified, but were eventually disqualified, according to the NJS for quality reasons, but everyone's basica assumption is it was more due to the understood element of NJS is the promotion of japanese frame and component makers. you can still find campy NJS stamped seat posts fairly easily, but other components are much more difficult to come by. |

| I know this is a really old post but it bugged me that the correct name was never entered. NJS stands for Nihon Jitensha Shinkokai. Japan Bicycle Organization. I'm suprised to see that Campy was NJS certified due to the idea of restricting the NJS stamp to Japanese manufacturers. I wonder if they would every approve Phil Wood? |
