Vandedrome For Sale
The Vandedrome has been redesigned (with wider turns) and the steel understructure is now restored and powder-coated. It needs a new racing surface. We’ve been unable to find a site and our plans are at a standstill. The track is being offered to another group for only the costs of moving it to their site. This project has great potential and the costs to complete it are minimal. I am personally willing to further invest my time and knowledge to help someone else make a success with it. Please contact: david@majorleaguecycling.com for further information. |

The response has been good so far. Offering the Vandedrome for only the costs of moving it to a site generated some interest; however, it should be mentioned that there are additional costs involved, which I think most people understand. I've been advising those that have inquired they should probably budget about $100,000 and that number depends on getting volunteer labor and also assumes you've got the land. Half of it is for site prep, a perimeter fence, and trucking costs (which depend on the mileage) and the other half for the new surface.
Thanks to those that have been passing this information on to others. |

| We've received a dozen or more inquiries to date. Three or four groups are actively interested and researching sites for the track. Additional inquiries are still welcomed. |

| An additional opportunity exists to create an indoor velodrome. I've discovered a used air structure/ tennis bubble and all of the necessary equipment, including heating and lights, for sale at $140,000. That means for a total cost of between $250,000 and $275,000 (assuming some additional site prep) the Vandedrome could now be built and operated indoors. |

I do believe it was originally intended to be indoors.... modeled after Kuipke in Gent.
Not sure now, but being small in size (167m was largest with some distance on straights optional) the foot print for the track and amenities would more likely fit in existing structures/buildings/arenas. |

| Bilko: I spoke with John Vandevelde in Gent two weeks ago and he said his idea was to build a track like the Kuipke - a real Six-Days type track that would challenge and prepare American cyclists to develop their technical skills and be able to race more competitively with the Europeans. You are also right about the possibilities to use it indoors; its footprint is now 124' x 240' at 167 meters (and can be built to 154 or 143 meters also by shortening the straights). The spacing of roof supports are the only issue, but adjustments can be made. The air structure/ tennis bubble is of course clear-span and frees-up the infield for additional uses (like in Burnaby with volleyball). And this used air structure appears to be a real bargain. |

| I drove down to Maryland yesterday to check out the used air structure/ tennis bubble. It should work perfectly with a slight adjustment to the currently planned width of the Vandedrome (124 ft. width to 118 ft.) and building the track to 154 meters. Other parties are interested in the bubble. I sure wish I could put this all together myself; it's really an exciting opportunity. |

| Contact Dale. He's got a plan where 200 riders can underwrite an effort like yours. Boulder folks must be a working example to anyone you need to influence. |

300 people pledge $1000 you get an indoor velodrome. I believe Dale's plan is something like this...Do you have 300 people with a $1000 that want a track in your town? _________________ "Shake & Bake!" |
