After a lot of trials, tribulations, communications difficulty, reading, thinking and discussion, we are prepared to announce the winners of 2008 Teschner Track Pro Framesets!
We had numerous entries form Juniors around the world, so many that it actually took much longer to pick the winners than expected. From beginners to national champions, we got all types of entries. The dreams of young cyclists are alive and well!
When the reading was done, the meetings were over the female winner is Taylor Farnsworth from Pennsylvania. The male winner is Jacob Rathe from Portland, Oregon.
The Winning Essays:
Why I deserve a Teschner Track Pro
I’m Taylor Farnsworth and I’m a 13 year old who races at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, and I think I deserve a Teschner Track Pro for the 2008 season. This will be my fourth season racing on the track, and my third season racing on the road, and I really need a new track bike for this season. Since I began racing I have used borrowed bikes from the different clubs which I have been associated. Now I have had a growth spurt and am now 5’8” tall, and I need to buy my own equipment this season. I have realized that cycling is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I want to continue this awesome sport! I am in desperate need of new equipment, so I was hoping that I could win a brand new Teschner to start off the new season. I have competed in Nationals for the past 3 years, 2 years in T-Town, and 1 year in Colorado. Also, one dilemma that I have overcome is that I didn’t learn to ride a bike until I was 9 years old, 2 years later I placed 5th at Junior Nationals in the 10-12 women’s group. I am very academics, so this bike would also help me conduct my cycling-related science fair projects which I have gone to states for, for the past 2 years. In conclusion, I deserve a Teschner because I have a growing love for cycling.

A Track Bicycle Race
By: Jacob Rathe
Two-time runner up, 15-16 National Track Omnium Championship
I am at the beginning of my fourth year of racing Track. As I look back at my track racing career, I see some of the best moments that I have spent on a bicycle, and my most defeated moments. Three years ago when I was 14, I did my first track races. My breakout year on the bike was when I was 15. I won all of the local category 3 races, and ended up surprising myself at track nationals. With 3 laps to go in the scratch race I attacked hard. The field didn’t react fast enough. I rode away to victory. The rush of excitement I felt when I crossed that line is unexplainable. The crowd was going wild the last two laps, as I was flying through the hot, humid air. The next day I was to get 2nd in the points race. I lost by one point. Had I gotten 4th in the last sprint, instead of 5th, I would have been the Omnium National Champion.
The next year was a repeat, after doing horribly in the 500m TT, I win the scratch race, and come short in the points race. Coming into the last sprint, I was tied for 2nd, with the one person that I needed to beat to take home the title. I was off the front in a group of three, for last three laps, my opponent close behind in the chase group. We were caught in turn two, of the last lap. I gave it everything I had, only to see him fly past me 100m before the line. I was 2nd place…again. I was biggest loser. I have one more beautiful gold medal, but no stars and stripes jersey to go along with it.
You can say that equipment isn’t what makes the racer, but when the difference between victory and failure is as close as it has been for me, it can all but make the difference. A nicer track frame can do one thing for me, bring me one step closer to the top spot on the podium, and that’s all that I need.
