When we last left you, the plans had been drawn up and Dave was headed into his Estes Park workshop to put together Tiemeyer number 841. We had been through an intensive discussion on design and now all I had left to do was pick the color. Dave on the other hand had quite a bit of work in front of him. Never doubt the work ethic of this guy! I was told it was probably going to be late this week but on Monday afternoon, I received photos of the frame! On the left we have the frame in the "Tack Fixture". (You can view all of these photos in great detail in the related album: The Tiemeyer Experience) Look closely and you will note the frame is basically assembled and ready to start welding. I've seen other frames in process, but the thing I noticed in this photo was how clean and well kept the shop is. Dave certainly runs a "tight ship". Dave's attention to detail in the design phase certainly carries over into the actual build.
One thing that has always intrigued me about the Signature frames is the cut out in the seat tube. So smooth, so well done. Here's a look at how that actually happens. The tube is cut, welded and then cleaned up with a grinder. With a wide seat tube, this cut out is necessary to keep the rear wheel close to the bottom bracket. You can also see that bottom bracket cut out at the, the top tube and seat stays are ready to be attached. The whole thing is about to come together!

The front end of the frame coming together. The GT sticker on the welding mask does give away a bit of the heritage behind these frames. In a later segment, I will discuss the SB1, SB2, SB3 and beyond...

And there it is! The FixedGearFever Project Tiemeyer has been "built". the frame is still a raw frame, meaning it has not been heat treated and still has to head down to Colorado Springs for some powder work and then it will be headed to Georgia.
