| Race Diary - Josh Kerkof - 2005 Elite National Championship Scratch Race |

I have known Josh for quite some time. I think we met at 2000
Elite Nationals when he was a junior. Since then, he has not
really so much calmed down... or mellowed, but he does seem to have
gotten a bit faster!
Not only is Josh a talented racer, he is a great supporter of
FixedGearFever. He recently sent me this "Diary" of the 2005
National Championship Scratch race... Good stuff! -Scott
I won the Scratch Race in 2004 and I entered the race as defending
Champion in 2005. I wasn't disappoint by besting last year's
performance. This year hosted the most endurance riders at a Nationals
in a number of years as many top roadies showed up to try and earn a

| Here it is, August 11th, and I am at my first Elite Nationals ever! I’m really excited. I’m also kind of nervous too, but not as nervous as I was at junior nationals (I think It’s because I’m at my home track). There are lots of riders from the National team, Olympians, and Professionals everywhere you look. I’m feeling pretty insignificant, like the annoying younger sibling that tags along. It kind of surprises me, though, that most of the riders I’ve seen before and some that I haven’t and even some coaches seem to know who I am! Click here to see the rest of the story... |

Texas Roadhouse, riding in the next-to-last qualifying heat, had to
smoke the last two K's to overcome almost a three second deficit to
TIAA-CREF and guarantee a Gold/Silver ride. With three of the top four
individual pursuit finishers, the poured on the gas and ripped off
final kilometer times of 1:04.886 and 1:03.802 to eclipse the TIAA-CREF
young guns by 1.4 seconds.
Northwestern Mortgage rode last and looked like a well-oiled machine,
firing off flying kilometer splits of 1:05.2, 1:05.3 and 1:05.4 to
deliver a fastest qualifying time of 4:25.932.
