I'm probably stepping on some land mines here...but no, the use of time standards for the purposes of finding points racers, match sprinters and scratch racers does not recognize a person's ability to race their bike. Speed is only one component, so to eliminate some exceptionally strong strategical racers is wrong. Also, to look only at time standards for some of the other races can be hurting our chances as well. For example, an "unknown" racer qualifies for Elite Nats, misses the time standard in the pursuit by some very small amount, and it not selected. The decision is made without considering the type of coaching/preperation the racer has had. Perhaps they just need a coach or a bit of support to shave off that fraction of a second. I think we need to look at more than time standards. Our international results, especially on the men's side, shows that this system is not working.
