Originally constructed, as a 500m track, for the 3rd National Sports Festival (1948). Kokura is famous as the first site of pro keirin racing which was conceived to ensure the venue’s viability (also raising gambling revenues for the national purse).-tci
Reconstructed as a 400m track in 1965, Kokura remained in operation until 1998 when the adjacent Kitakyushu Media Dome (also styled Kokura Keirin Stadium) opened. The old track was subsequently demolished and the site landscaped.-tci
