In 2004 the previously open track was covered as the Santiago Calatrava designed roof was moved into place. At the 2004 Olympics the arena remained open sided.-tci
In 2006, over a period of just 40 days between May and July, the velodrome was fully enclosed with the gap to the roof glazed.-tci
